Tutuban Center is a 9-hectare integrated wholesale and retail commercial subdivision lot, encompassing the southern end of the Tutuban railway station. A total of 22 hectares of prime land was programmed for redevelopment and SMDI was engaged to conduct a traffic study of the center in 1991. Envisioned to become the center-piece of Divisoria, Tutuban Center was conceived to revitalize Manila’s leading business and commercial center to help evolve an organized and efficient wholesale and retail district by complementing and integrating with existing structures and operations in Divisoria and expanding /improving on the facilities currently available.
The specific objectives of the study were to: assess the existing and future traffic conditions of the study area; design alternative traffic circulation schemes that would be suitable for the center; and determine the parking requirements of the study area.
