The Maritime Safety Improvement Project was to be implemented through the urgent rehabilitation of aids to navigation facilities along the Manila-Cebu major trunk shipping route and the conduct of an intensive engineering study on maritime safety measures for the Philippine inter-island maritime traffic.
Undertaken in 1996 by SMDI, in association with Fildravo Engineering Corp., the study drew up the proposed work plan and implementation schedule of the Intensive Engineering Study based on the review of relevant studies, especially the “Study on Master Plan of Maritime Safety in the Republic of the Philippines” (MAPMAS). The overall study framework consisted of: a) Preparatory Work, b) Improvement Plan Formulation and c) Project Preparation.
