The construction of interchanges at the EDSA/North-West Ave. and EDSA/Roosevelt Avenue intersections is part of the Philippine Government’s 2000 strategy to upgrade the level of service of EDSA which is the most important circumferential road of Metro Manila’s main road system, both in terms of function and the volume of traffic handled.
Owing to the rapid urban development of Metro Manila in general, and the EDSA-MRT depot, terminal and commercial development in the vicinity of the two intersections in particular, there is a need for grade separation schemes at the two intersections, in order to efficiently handle the movement of vehicles entering said intersections. In order to identify the most appropriate grade scheme for each intersection, one of the main considerations is the traffic volume and its impact on the type of structure that will be constructed. It is along this context that this traffic study was undertaken in 2000. The study presented the findings of the traffic analysis, in relation to the detailed engineering design of the interchanges that will be constructed at these subject intersections.
